I grew up in Lagos watching the famous magician known as Professor Peller perform some magical acts on local television; in fact I recall my late father promising to take me to one of his shows. I was fascinated by the magical hats that produced the white doves after he waved the wand around. I even fantasied about becoming a magician someday in the future. The word ‘Abracadabra’ were the famous magical words that produced unbelievable feats of magic, though used several times in my solitude moments hoping for some birds to fly out of my empty hats to no avail. I soon found out that it is simply deception and based on the more you look, the less you see. As I grew older in life, I found out that there is more than meet the eyes in our daily life than we know.
The scriptures also warns us about another great deception, this time, it is built around ‘riches and Wealth.’ It honestly looks like most people in this world are hooked unto this deception willingly unlike the Professor Peller experience. The capitalistic political ideology that magnifies the importance of prosperity above posterity, money above morals, capital above communities, profits above people have made this deception work great magic in our day to day pursuit of the same.
The Bible gives us these warnings in several passages but I’ll mention only two so that I may share some tips with you on how to discern if you have been trapped in this great deception.
“And the cares of this world, and
The above scriptures have ‘popularly becoming unpopular’ in today’s church and practice of Christianity as preachers run from the power of these scriptures and Worshippers hide their ears from the same also. I would love to share some tips with you towards inspiring you on how to know if you are a victim of this great deception…abracadabra.
3 TIPS TO DISCERN THE DECEPTION OF RICHES …abracadabra
- SUCCESS IS MEASURED BY MATERIAL WEALTH, JOB TITLES AND SOCIAL STATUS: This is the king of illusions today in the world and church and nothing can be farther from the ‘Gospel’ Truth than the above phrase. Most of the successful people I know did not have too much wealth, like Mahatma Ghandi, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jnr.; they simply made positive impact on the lives of people around them and in the world generally.
- ASSETS AND POSSESSIONS MAKE YOU: We all forget that Jesus negated this ideology when he said, ‘a man’s life does not consist of the abundance of things he possesses…’ (Luke 12 v 15). The American capitalistic ideology has made people ‘possession’ conscious and freaks. True happiness comes from what we give to others not what we get and acquire from others. Nigerian politicians and citizens are fixated on possessions of cars, houses, gold, etc.
- PEOPLE WHO ARE WEALTHY ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THOSE WHO ARE NOT: This is another great deception and we should realize that it is not true in some places around the world. We need to live our lives according to scriptures and not according to man’s illusions of success and importance. Some people believe they are more important than others because of their gold but lose sight of the truth from scriptures.
These are modern day illusions and not reality, they are very far from the truth and many people are pursuing these things hoping to gain happiness. I hope you will adjust your life with the above tips and start to live the right way before your Maker and God. Be inspired and share the word today.
I hope you have been Inspired by this piece.
