Multiple online sources have revealed that the Saturday night’s “Mombasa Rocks Concert” which had Chris Brown as the international headliner, was almost disrupted after a clash between Wizkid and Tanzanian singer, Ali Kiba over who would perform before the other.
It was gathered that the two superstars claimed to be the biggest in terms of the fan base. Ali Kiba allegedly insisted that he would not take to the stage before Wizkid, leading to a disagreement that reportedly delayed the arrival of the main performer of the night, Chris Brown.
Below is how The Nairobean News exclusively reported the story;
“Show of might and abrupt ending of performances marred Saturday’s much hyped show that was headlined by American singer Chris Brown, Nairobi News can reveal.
“Sources say that there was a standoff when Tanzania’s Alikiba declined to perform before Nigeria’s Wizkid.
“Kiba felt he is bigger in Kenya than Wizkid hence he could not understand why he was scheduled to perform before,” said our source.
“In the end, Alikiba had his way, which saw him perform after Wizkid and just before Mr Brown. But that was not all. It is alleged that Alikiba had time enough for just three songs after which his performance was ended, to pave way for Mr Brown.
“The Nairobi News understands that Mr Brown had pitched tent at the Mombasa Golf Club – the venue of the event – from 9pm and had requested to be on the stage by 11pm, since he had to fly out of the country by Sunday, 3am.
“The organizers were also accused of failing to give value for money to people who had VIP tickets, bought at Sh20,000.
“Like during Wizkid’s performance, if you had a VIP ticket, you could only see him partially. Some people holding VIP tickets had to move to the arena where people with Sh5,000 tickets were standing,” said a source.
“Mr Brown is said to have been paid Sh90 million for his 90-minute performance.”
