The Anatomy of a Real Man
In the first 8 verses of Hebrews 11, we see four men of faith who show us who a man is.
1. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:4, that
By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
A real man understands the language of sacrifice, the language of worship. A man is a man because he gives his best to God.
The best of his life
The best of his time.
The best of his resources
A man is not a man just because he can sing poetry
He is a man because he worships.
Never trust the poetry of a man who cannot do poetry for God, which is worship.
Poetry will sweep you off your feet, but worship will help you stand.
Poetry is a work of art, but worship is an art of war.
And there is a time to play, and a time to fight
2. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 11:5, that
By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
(Genesis 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.)
To walk with someone means to have fellowship with them.
A real man understands the language of prayer.
He knows how to talk with God; how to fellowship with Him.
He knows the right words to say per time.
How to bring His influence into his vicinity, his atmosphere, his home.
A man is not a man because he can lift up his hand in anger for the ungodly act of hitting a woman
He is a man because he can lift up holy hands without anger or doubting
3. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 11:7, that
By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
A man is the protector of the home.
He is the ground on which they stand
The pillar on which they lean
And the ceiling under which they are covered.
A man is not a man just because he can speak in tongues
He is a man because he understands his wife’s tongues.
He knows what her silence means.
He understands the unspoken desires of his children
The Bible tells us in Hebrews 11:8, that
By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
That is vision.
A man is not a man because he is moved by what he sees
He is a man because he is moved by what he cannot see.
He is moving, because he can behold the invisible
And because he is dancing to the tune of the ultimate, he cannot be subject to the immediate.
He is the ultimate warrior.
He is a heavenly man
Just as every woman is a queen, every man is a king.
And every king has a kingdom.
Your kingdom is not the queen, because true queens cannot be conquered. They simply agree to help a king conquer a shared kingdom.
So a man is not a king because he conquers a woman
He is a king because he has located his domain, his area, his divine assignment
He is a king because he can convince his queen that he has found something worth conquering, enough for her to agree to be his crown.
That is a man.
