The gentleman glided to the taxi park at the hotel parking lot, he was running late for an urgent business appointment and wasn’t going to mess up his opportunity to make it big with the big executives of this multinational waiting for him in a posh restaurant in downtown business district. Exhuming some swagger and confidence, he pondered on which vehicle to go with as there were only three available vehicles for him to pick from.
He noticed a very beautiful, clean, luxury SUV with all the features befitting of an executive; an image he had hoped to portray to his potential business benefactors. The second vehicle on the other hand was an average saloon car, then of course the third car was an older model of an outdated brand, though looks okay and presentable but definitely not something desirable for a day light business outing. The drivers were all making efforts to catch his attention for their business, naturally, the fellow just moved towards the good looking, luxury SUV nicely dressed chauffeur….but then the shock of his life, ‘sir, I will really have to plead for your understanding, The Tank Is Empty and there is no gas station here but you may want to wait for about 1 hour sir.’ What would you do if you were in his shoes?
This is the story of our lives today and also of what we call ‘Brands’ in brief, so many people look good and talk nicer they are like the SUV vehicles with Empty Tanks, immobile without fuel in the tank.
The Lord warned us about the power of fuel in our tanks for the journey ahead of us in life and ministry; we should strive to have fuel and plans for extra fuel or else our lives will be useless with Empty Tanks. The parable of the 10 virgins readily comes to mind to buttress the story of the young fellow above, I will remind you of what the happened this way…
…And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their † lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps… And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. …Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
THE 3 SCENARIOS AND THE WISE DECISION
- LUXURY SUV WITH EMPTY TANK: A wise Person will know that the vehicle is useless without fuel and fuel is useless without a vehicle. There are things that must complement each other for success to be achieved in life and ministry. While some emphasize the Vehicle (Body, Brand, External Features) others believe Fuel is critical in leadership else the Church will be led by good people with Empty Tanks and nothing more to offer.
- AVERAGE SALOON WITH FUEL: I believe we should try to strike a balance in making life’s most critical decisions. I will go for Beauty and Brains not just Brains Without Beauty any day. There is nothing wrong with a beautiful car as long as it is not empty and this will be my choice today.
- RICKETY LOOKING CAR WITH FULL TANK: I’m sure one will be sounding like a fool by choosing an old rickety looking car with a full tank that may break down on the road to the venue of my meeting in the name of modesty and wisdom. I will not throw away Beauty for anything at all, it is always better to get the balance in life.
Can you take a deep thought about the three choices in life; Your Church, Your Workplace, Your Relationship? Embrace wisdom from the story above and make the right decisions.
