Musicians Who Love Soccer and the Teams They Support

Soccer is one of the biggest sports in the world. With over 3 billion fans the world over, it is no surprise that stadiums are brimming whenever a soccer match is being played. The roots of soccer can be traced back to the Ancient world, in countries like China and Greece, where kickball games were popular and played by people of all castes. However, the game as we know it today, came to be in the early 19th century, when the rules of soccer were first drafted up in England. Since then, the sport’s popularity has grown considerably, reaching its height in the 21st century.

Today, some of the biggest sporting events in the world are football events. Whether it be the Olympic soccer tournament, the FIFA 2022 World Cup, or the national leagues (such as the EPL, the French Ligue 1, or the Spanish La Liga), football events are unrivaled in popularity around the world. As the sport’s popularity is so great, it might not come as a huge surprise to some of you to read that there are quite a lot of famous people that are fans of the game. Let us take a look at some musicians from all over the world who are huge fans of the game.

Kcee is one of Nigeria’s most popular singers. He first hit the music scene as part of the hip hop duo, Kc Presh, which he formed with hajie. The two separated in 2011 on amicable terms, and have each been pursuing a solo career since. In 2013, Kcee released his first album, Takeover, which was met with a hugely positive feedback in Nigeria, and in 2017, he followed it up with his sophomore release, Attention to Detail. Kcee is among Nigeria’s most popular performers, and has signed several, high-value, endorsement deals with companies like MTN. He was also appointed as Nigeria’s Peace Ambassador by Patience Jonathan in 2014.

What many don’t know, however, is that Kcee is a huge fan of football, and has even spent some time playing the game professionally. In a 2015 interview, Kcee was asked about his football career, and he talked about his days playing as a striker for Julius Berger and PUMA. The singer still holds on to his passionate love of the game today. It seems that his favorite team is Barcelona, as he has been following their games, and even wagered money on a number of their matches.

Roger Waters
Roger Waters is a legend in the world of rock music. Often mistakenly believed to be the founder of psychedelia legends, Pink Floyd, Waters is the man that made the band the powerhouse it is today. The so-called “Roger Waters era” of Pink Floyd yielded some of the most popular albums, not just from Pink Floyd, but in the world of music in general. The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon, and Wish You Were Here, were all produced under Waters’ leadership, and are still regarded as some of the greatest rock albums of all time.

What Roger Waters is less known for, is his lifelong love of the game of football, and his support of England’s Arsenal. Support of Arsenal is something that Roger Waters shares with his former bandmate David Gilmour, who claims to be a season-ticket holder for Arsenal matches.Roger Waters, for his part, dispelled the long-believed myth that he is a Liverpool fan. He confirmed that, he is indeed a Gunner supporter.

Drake is among the most popular musicians working today (maybe even the most popular). He certainly is the best-selling rapper in the mainstream, producing countless hit singles, and a number of best-selling albums.

It might interest some of you to know that Drake has a long, storied, and complicated history as a soccer fan. While it is believed he is a Manchester City supporter, he has also been seen wearing a United jersey, when hanging out with former Manchester United centre-back, Rio Ferdinand.

The American rapper has also spent time with Chelsea player, Didier Drogba, and has even practiced with the club. We think it is safe to say that Drake is more so a fan of the sport, rather than a particular team or club.
